‘Himmatwala’ Set To Recreate 80s Magic This Friday At Box Office

Drama, stunts, herogiri and much more masala will be in Sajid Khan-directed Himmatwala reminding viewers of the 1980s movie-making culture when it hits the screens Friday. Touted to be high on entertainment, the film will see lead actor Ajay Devgn performing high voltage stunts, including a fight scene with a tiger.

A solo release, the film is a modern version of the 1983 release Himmatwala, which struck gold at the box office, thanks to Jeetendra and Sridevi’s performances and K. Raghavendra Rao’s entertaining screenplay and superb direction.

This Friday is for those who savour the cinematic flavour of the 1980s. They can relish and cherish the era with Himmatwala, a story of a poor and wronged mother’s son who comes to the village to avenge his father.

Don’t expect just action, the film has lots of drama too.

“‘Himmatwala’ is not an action film and that is why I have written Sajid Khan Entertainer. It has a lot of comedy, drama is also heavy. The drama of the past cinema – mother, daughter, sister, protection, villagers etc,” said Sajid.

Ajay is geared up to entertain fans thoroughly – if he has a grand entry in the film, he will also be seen dancing on hit numbers Taki Taki and Naino mein sapna from the original with his leading lady Tamannaah, who is foraying into Bollywood with the movie.

In the film, Ajay plays the son of a school teacher, trying to restore the lost glory of his father in his village.

Tammannah will play Rekha, daughter of evil guy Sher Singh, played by Mahesh Manjrekar, who falls in love with Ajay’s character.

“When I wrote the scenes, I wrote it in the 1980s style – the mother-son drama, hero fighting with tiger, hero saving the whole village, being friends with everyone, dialoguebaazi… what made Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, or Vinod Khanna or Dharmendara a star,” said Sajid who is confident that it is a “paisa vasool” film.

The director makes films “from the point of view of an audience and what am I going to enjoy in the theatre,” is confident that audiences will love Ajay’s entry in the movie.

Interestingly, Ajay represents the colour white, with no shades of grey and he will also be seen talking in five languages in the film.

Debra Messing Graces CBS with Comedy Pilot

Although Debra Messing earned high praise throughout her run on Will & Grace, her success ever since has been moreover lacking. Messing followed the hit NBC sitcom with a short-lived basic cable dramedy The Starter Wife, returning to her old network thereafter for the musical series Smash... which, although still part of the lineup, has been moved to Saturdays (never a good sign).

RELATED: 'Smash' and Burn: The Ratings for NBC's Musical Fall

But with all of the comical talent Messing has at her disposal, we hope that this next venture will be a revival of her acclaim: Deadline reports that the actress will be starring in a new CBS pilot, playing a compulsive liar whose penchant for spinning yarns begins to infect her home and work lives.

RELATED: 'Smash' Gets the Saturday Snub

The pilot comes from writing/producing team Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky, who have worked on Messing's Smash as well as Sex and the City. The unnamed project, originally titled Mother's Day, derives from an Israeli comedy series.

Kardashians to Launch Self-Tanning Line

Good news, readers: you can soon be as fake as the Kardashians!

According to Women's Wear Daily, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney have teamed up with New Sunshine LLC to create their very own self-tanning line titled Kardashians Sun Kissed.

t will hit stores in April and be comprised of five items: a body exfoliator, a color maximizer, a… come on, do you really care?

“I think tanning has really been a way of life for all of us, living in California,” Kim says. “Especially, more recently, the need for sunless tan. When I travel, the one thing that makes me feel alive whether or not I have makeup on is a tan, especially in my face... so we wanted a system that was really easy but yet is a full system.”

The question, of course, is whether Kim will ever look good enough in a bikini again to take advantage of this product.

Ashley Greene Fire: Huge Blaze Engulfs Twilight Star's Condo, Kills Dog

A fire ripped through the West Hollywood condo owned by Twilight star Ashley Greene this morning, causing major damage and killing one of her dogs.

At least 10 fire trucks swarmed to the seven-story building earlier today to extinguish the blaze. Three people were treated for minor injuries.

Residents in the building who live near Ashley Greene say that her brother and assistant had been going in and out of the condo all morning.

One resident says she heard glass exploding in Ashley's condo.

Of the 26-year-old's two fox terriers, one died at the scene under the bed. The second dog lived and was taken by Animal Control to be checked out.

Several other residents tried to fight the blaze with fire extinguishers and were covered in soot. It's still not clear what exactly started the blaze.

According to TMZ, Ashley, her boyfriend and her brother were out late last night and were sleeping when the fire broke out on the living room sofa.

They ran out of the apartment, and then realized the dogs were still there. Bravely, the two men tried to get back in to rescue them but couldn't.

The "inconsolable" Ashley wanted to keep the dog that died, so firefighters wrapped it in a sheet and gave it either to Ashley or one of the two guys.

We're sorry for Ash's loss and for the fact that she had to go through that. It's easy to get a new place, but pets and memories are forever. Chin up, girl.

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has been on a roll and coming back to the city only means her film commitments! She immediately urged her house keeper to fill in vessels of water and keep it in her balcony so that the birds can drink in. Now her house hears from Sonakshi on a daily base from Lucknow, where she is shooting for BULLET RAJA alongside Saif. Not only that but a source close to the actress reveals that she urges her near and dear ones to do the same.

Katrina Kaif bags a role in Zoya Akhtar’s Bombay Talkies

Post Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, buzz is that Katrina Kaif and Zoya Akhtar are very keen on doing more films together. Now the latest we hear is that Katrina has been finalized to do a special role in the Zoya Akhtar’s film Bombay Talkies.

Apparently, Zoya had a blast working with Kat in ZNMD. She promised Katrina to rope her in in one of her future projects too. Keeping her vow, Zoya signed the Bollywood barbie in her segment of Bombay Talkies, a film which is a compilation of four short films, an ode to Indian cinema.

It is heard that Kats role is that of a muse to a young boy, who is an ardent fan of her. Well, in the end, the young boy’s secret dream of meeting Katrina Kaif comes true. Katrina will be featured as herself in the film.

Does this story remind you of SRK’s film Om Shanti Om, where Shahrukh’s dream of meeting Shanti Priya, came true?

BOMBAY TALKIES is an ode to cinema by four prolific filmmakers – Zoya Akhtar, Dibarkar Bannerjee, Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar.

While Anurag Kashyap’s film has Amitabh Bachchan in main role, Karan Johar theme is about a director who sells love through films.

Sanjay Dutt: Bollywood actor sent back to jail for 1993 Mumbai blasts

India's Supreme Court has ruled that Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt must return to prison for his connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
The actor has been on bail since 2007 when he appealed against his original sentence of six years. On Thursday, the Supreme Court reduced it to five years.
Dutt was convicted in 2006 of buying weapons from bombers who attacked Mumbai. He spent 20 months in jail.
The serial bombings killed 257 people and wounded 713 others.
In 2006, a special anti-terror court had convicted 100 people for the blasts - 12 of the convicts were given death penalty and 20 others were given life sentence.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court also upheld the death sentence of Yakub Memon, one of the main convicts, while death sentences of 10 others were commuted to life. Mohammed Iqbal, who was also given death sentence, died while in prison.
Dutt, one of Bollywood's most bankable stars, is hugely popular for his role of a loveable gangster in Munnabhai movies.
He has also dabbled in politics. The judges have ordered the actor to surrender in four weeks.
'Strong man'
"He will have to serve another three-and-a-half year sentence. We had prepared him for the same," Reuters quoted Dutt's lawyer Satish Maneshinde as saying after the Supreme Court verdict.
"We will wait for a copy of the judgement and then decide the further course of action," he said. "He is a strong man and will fight back."
"Whatever is the judgement of the court I will respect it. I want all to pray for me. God is great," NDTV channel quoted the actor as saying after the court order.
Dutt, the most high-profile among the convicts, was originally charged with five offences, including criminal conspiracy and possession of illegal weapons.
The trial court had found him guilty of illegally possessing a rifle and a pistol but cleared him of conspiracy.
The son of a Hindu father and Muslim mother, Dutt said the weapons were necessary in order to defend his family during the Hindu-Muslim rioting of 1993 which had followed the destruction by Hindu zealots of the Babri mosque in the northern town of Ayodhya.

The Mumbai blasts were allegedly carried out by the city's Muslim-dominated underworld in retaliation for the riots, in which most of those killed were Muslims.
The man who is believed to have masterminded the plot, underworld leader Dawood Ibrahim, has still not been caught.
India says he and another key suspect, Tiger Memon, are hiding in Pakistan - a charge Pakistan denies.

Katrina refused to kiss Hrithik in Bang Bang, reason Salman or Shahrukh?

Earlier it was reported that Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan will perform a passionate kissing scene in their upcoming movie 'Bang Bang', but now seems like it's not happening. The smooch scene between the couple was indeed a part of the script, but apparently the actress is now insisting that she won't do the kissing scene with Hrithik in the film.

Reportedly the reason behind this sudden refusal has to do with Katrina's former beau Salman Khan. It is being heard that Salman was upset with Katrina's multiple lip-locks with his archrival Shah Rukh Khan in 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', and furthermore was deeply hurt that she went great lengths to hide the fact from him. Thus by refusing to perform a passionate kissing scene with Hrithik Roshan in Bang Bang, the actress now thinks that she would kiss-and-makeup with her ex-boyfriend.

An insider reveals that Katrina wants her previous kiss to be deleted from everybody's memory, especially Salman, so that she can bring back a certain level of communication back with her former lover. In one of her recent interaction with media, the actress revealed coldly, "There's been no talk about a kiss in Bang Bang. It's not true." However when quizzed if she would do a kissing scene in any other movies, she maintained a 'no comment' statement.

Rohit Shetty’s Singham 2, Golmaal 4 To Go On Floors This Year

2013 might just turn out to be a stupendous year for Rohit Shetty. His next directorial venture Chennai Express produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies banner, has already gathered excitement from the audience. Starring Deepika Padukone and the King Shah Rukh Khan, the film is expected to rake up good revenue.

Our sources inform us, that Rohit Shetty will have two other important films that may release this year. Both Singham 2 and Golmaal 4 are scheduled to go on floors later this year. With three magnanimous releases lined up, Rohit is going to be the most important director of 2013 in B-town.

His 2011 film Singham got roaring rave reviews from critics for his smart sense of action sequences and fine direction. The Golmaal series have proved to be tried and tested formula at sure shot success, over and over again. Making millions laugh with its sensible comic timing, Golmaal has to be one of the best comedy films of recent times. Sheer laughter therapy at its best!

Given the successes of its prequels, the films will easily become hits, exclaim Trade analysts. Three of Shetty’s previous films are a part of the 100 crore -club – Bol Bachchan, Golmaal 3 and Singham. And since both Singham and Golmaal 3 have earned 100 crore plus profit, one can easily place heavy expectations on both Singham 2 and Golmaal 4.

Koimoi wishes Rohit Shetty our best wishes. We are eagerly awaiting both Singham 2 and Golmaal 4, because good entertainment always has a special place in Bollywood.

I Me Aur Main Review

I Me Aur Main released on 1st March, 2013.
Rating: 2/5 stars (Two-star)

Star cast: John Abraham, Chitrangada Singh, Prachi Desai, Zarina Wahab, Mini Mathur, Raima Sen

What’s Good: Too many good looking people assembled together in the same frame.

What’s Bad: Everything that is related to the cinematic aspect of the film, a doomed script and cluttered screenplay is painful.

Loo break: Washroom will definitely look more appealing to you!

Watch or Not?: A wobbly screenplay and a faltering script gone terribly wrong, I, Me aur Main is essentially as narcissistic as the title. Don’t waste your time on this film which gloats too much over nothing substantial.

Maa-da-ladla Ishaan Sabharwal epitomizes narcissism. Self centered to the core, the man is his own favorite, the King of his personal fantasy land. A successful music producer, he is in a live in relationship with his lawyer girlfriend Anushka.
While his girlfriend dreams to marry him, Ishaan happily parties around like a school boy in his la-la-land. One night, an exasperated Anushka breaks off her relationship with this juvenile delinquent of sorts, after Ishaan exhibits irresponsibility of the highest order.
Despite what would appear to most as devastating, Ishaan uses his breakup to inflate his ego. He moves in next door with his free spirited, chirpy neighbor Gauri, who automatically identifies Ishaan’s pulse right and keeps him aptly contained.
Ishaan’s Mom in an attempt to escape from her imposing husband moves in with him. Trying to sympathize with her heartbroken child, she nurses his appetite with pyaar bhara parathas. At work, his obnoxious boss gives him a tougher time! Ishaan surrounded by demanding women from all sides, must finally grow up!
Does Ishaan mend his three year long relationship with Anushka? Or chase Gauri, the woman who knows her way with him like no one else?

I Me Aur Main Review: Script Analysis

The film fails primarily because of it’s over bearing and over ambitious script. Trying its hands at too many themes, the film appears shady and inconsistent. The story lacks depth and is maintained mostly at a superficial level. The story moves aimlessly without making a point at all. One might be seriously confused by the end of it! What was it? A romantic comedy? A break-up Satire? A sappy family saga? Or a multi themed broth gone bland. The film ends hastily which adds on to the mounting disappointment. The writer, makes Ishaan’s character even more shallow given his sudden situation based change of heart. He in fact looks even more selfish in the end than he seemed all along in the film. The script has sketchy characters who are far from reality altogether. It does to the film an irreparable damage which is impossible to be undone.

I Me Aur Main Review: Star Performances

John Abraham does his best at flaunting his bitable and chiseled hot body. Oh, such hot men shouldn’t be allowed to openly seduce critics into giving positive reviews! It’s a shame he can’t act. Though his performances have improved over time, he still hasn’t learnt the art of imbibing energy or imagination into his roles. His fans will love the film however, for the extensive skin show. I can safely put, he is somehow adequate as Ishaan.
Chitrangada Singh is too beautiful to be wasted on a film like this. No offence, but Singh is a woman of immense talent. Her acting and looks are both repetitive and this doe-eyed beauty seems to be losing her spark.
Prachi Desai does a good job as Gauri. She somehow manages to tower over both John and Chitrangada, in terms of performance. Bubbly, energetic and vivacious, she keeps her performance true to her character making it look plausible.
The talented actor Zarina Wahab is left unutilized. So is Raima Sen. The script leaves little room for their characters to amply grow, hence they fail to create any impression at all.
Mini Mathur lives up to her role, giving a boisterous performance of sorts.

I Me Aur Main Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects

Kapil Sharma’s directorial debut is his earnest attempt at delivering a breezy romantic comedy. His effort is visibly honest, but is held down by the wavering screenplay. The film’s editing isn’t shabbily done either. The film grossly underestimates the audiences’ taste of romantic comedies, by presenting a confused, annoying and unbelievably chaotic plot. The music isn’t bad as well but surely the end product is quite unimpressive, which fails the rest!

I Me Aur Main Review: The Last Word

I Me Aur Main is a flashy attempt to bluff audiences by putting together obviously beautiful actors in ornate celluloid frames in order to conceal a weak plot and shaky screenplay. Lock up your brains and ogle happily, in case you decide to go for the film.

I Me Aur Main Trailer

The Attacks Of 26/11 Review

Rating: 3.5/5 stars (Three-and-half-star)

Star cast: Atul Kulkarni, Nana Patekar, Sanjeev Jaiswal, Ganesh Yadav

What’s Good: The cinematography, the lucid flow of the narration, all performances.

What’s Bad: The style of narration suits the news-mode more than the movie-mode.

Loo break: None.

Watch or Not?: For reliving the intensity of the attacks and this well retold narration, boasting of power packed performances by all, especially Nana Patekar, this one is definitely worth a watch.

It is not a story being told. Not an accident either. The Attacks Of 26/11 is the set of terror attacks that hit Mumbai on November 26, 2008 being produced into reel with some really appreciable cinematography and mentionable performances.

Some native fishermen trek in to the Arabian looking for a rare fish that is found only in deep water. After a while they realize they might have entered international waters, in this case, that of Pakistan. In the mean time they see a Pakistani trawler in distress. While the Indian fishermen try to find out what is wrong, they’re faced with the terrorists coercing them into helping the 10 terrorists to reach Mumbai. All fishermen are killed and dumped at sea by the time they reach a shabby Mumbai port.

Here on begins the communication between the terrorists and the commoners. The 10 break into smaller groups and attack pre designed areas. The back grounds of the terrorists are not focused upon much as are the little details of the victims. There is often shown some moments of sanity and human considerations on the part of Ajmal Kasab, played by Sanjeev Jaiswal, which were suppressed without delay by his companion in the ruthless strikes.

The climax shows Kasab’s sentence to be hanged till death in action. Crude scenes of violence make the movie unsuitable for the feeble hearted. By the end of the movie the Joint Commissioner of Police, played by Nana Patekar, Mumbai, passes with distinction in the departmental scrutiny and goes to head the Anti Terrorism Squad.

The whole movie sees the Police in a very glorious light. And the attacks are being narrated by Nana Patekar, giving a concrete feel to the content. For the viewer, it is reliving the shame of religious extremism, the pain of loss and the rise of bravery from amongst the common.

The Attacks of 26/11 Review: Script Analysis

It is not much of a script. If you have been watching the news during and post- 26/11 attacks, you probably know it all. Even the case updates with regards to Ajmal Kasab will provide you much of the information that Nana Patekar goes on the reveal. So may be for a movie based on a highly spoken-about terrorist attack, The Attacks Of 26/11 fails to break any ice with the script. But keeping that in mind, the movie has a fresh feel that makes you want to sit through and view the very well sequenced script. Sunil Wadhwani does commendable work at editing.

The Attacks of 26/11 Review: Star Performances

We miss Atul Kulkarni, though it makes sense to say his performance was critically well placed. Nana Patekar, if we can ignore, at times, unwanted voice modulation, does an amazing job of playing the Joint Commissioner of Police to a city that did not even have time to recover from an attack before having to face another one of similar or higher magnitudes.  About Sanjeev  Jaiswal, his expressions are commendable though his lines only match them up pretty late into the film.

The Attacks of 26/11 Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects

Director Ram Gopal Verma went to the scenes in November 2008 to do some 1st hand research. Well, we can see the effect. The film is well directed keeping in mind it put together a massive number of abstract characters. Cinematography however wins over anything else.  Harshraj Shroff and M. Ravichandran Thevar liven up the shades of the sky and the cityscape to explain the pathos in vivid visuals. Vikram Biswas worked pretty well keeping in mind the sound score of the movie set the theme of a psychological thriller (from the terrorists’ point of view ), in combination with that of an incidental narration.

The Attacks of 26/11 Review: The Last Word

We have seen it too many times, the quotes from the Holy religious texts being explained to the wrongdoer after the deed is done. We see it here again. That said, in the aftermath of the recent Hyderabad blasts; see this just to know the larger picture.
